Guide and Review of the Best Freight Loads

LTL Freight

Considerations for Choosing LTL Freight Companies

LTL freight is a more common term for Less Than (a) Truckload of cargo to load. There are times that we would need to move some sort of cargoes that are too many for you to do on your own, and still too much for a full truck. So you are stuck with either a truck fee for a 48 or a 53 foot trailer that is too much for the haul or you can move them all carefully by yourself through going to and fro for more than a few times.

So basically, you would end up wasting either money or fuel (which is still money of course!). This is why many trucking companies have come up with LTL freight. The demand is already growing; there are many that would need to have most of things hauled.

During LTL freight negotiation, there are some considerations for choosing the right company.

The cost. The preliminary cost is an important consideration. Most of the LTL freight companies would consider the weight, the pick up and the destination. There are no specific cost quotes, so you would need to check with the companies themselves.

The fuel surcharge. Since the fuel price is moving up and down, you should make sure that the company who would be handling your LTL freight needs would be able to keep the surcharge into a minimum.

The discounts. There are many LTL freight companies that are actually able to provide discounts. Some of these discounts may come from the individual’s company or place of work. On the other hand, there are some that provides discounts depending on the types of cargoes that would be moved. Some discounts may also be from holiday promotions. So, try catching some of these promos if you are planning for moving some valuable things.

The accessorial expenses. These charges are usually those that are extra charges for some extra work, either for the machine or vehicle and the movers themselves. One of the most popular added services is call in advance notification. This is an advance call as to whether the haul is ready. Pick up or delivery options are also another added charge.

In some cases, there are LTL companies that would require additional payments for hauls that have a need for dock and fork lift.

The equipment. The LTL freights do not have to be as small as your pick up car or so, but then it is not as big as a full truck trailer. The equipments should also be clean and sturdy. Imagine using worn down equipment. This would definitely make you feel unsecured for your things. There are also some hauls that would need to have refrigerated environment. This environment would require good equipments.

Now, choosing your LTL freight company should require some amount of investment in terms of time and patience. You would need to ask around from friends, perhaps they have already availed of such services. They may also know some companies that are known to have a good reputation in keeping their cargoes at its best condition.
