Importance of Freight Loads
Whether you have your own business, your own company, or you may be working as a manager in a certain company and you are in the processing of determining a strategy for your freight loads, you might want to consider outsourcing them. Having your freight loading needs outsourced to a third party logistics provider (3PL) might be more beneficial than doing them in-house.
It might indeed be more affordable to employ a 3PL for your freight needs. However, it would still depend on your customer’s needs and the company’s current situation. There may be certain instances or times where your customer’s warehouse, plant, or intended delivery location is located somewhere that is quite far from your source. In this case, you might want to consider getting a 3PL for your freight loading needs.
One actual case that I have seen that was very effective in implementing this strategy was in the case of an automotive company that manufactures various kinds of automotive interior parts. They supplied such products to another automotive company that manufactures a prominent brand of cars.
This car company employs a just-in-time (JIT) manufacturing system so they require their suppliers to deliver the raw materials on a per cycle basis which is usually done per hour. An hourly delivery proved to be quite difficult for them since they didn’t have a nearby warehouse and their plant was located quite far and was hours away from the car company’s plant.
At first, since the JIT system was employed, they tried doing the delivery on their own as they always did. However, it proved to be quite tedious not only for their delivery people and the truck drivers, but also on the company’s budget. During the regular management review, one of their managers suggested outsourcing their freight load needs. This concept was new to them since they’ve been doing deliveries in-house ever since they started.
However, upon careful consideration, deliberation, and much study, they decided to implement the suggestion. In the end, it proved to be a really successful decision. They were able to have cost savings of as much as eighty percent compared to when they were doing it on their own. In the end, outsourcing their freight loading needs proved to be an effective strategy and they were quite happy with it.
For your freight loads needs, you might really want to consider implementing a similar strategy for your company or business. These days outsourcing, even the freight loads needs, is indeed becoming popular so that the company can focus on developing their core competencies or on their main product itself.
Outsourcing would mean spending less time on the trivialities and focusing on the main product research and development would strengthen the company’s competitive advantage. This would make the company grow and become better. It wouldn’t really be such a bad idea to try it out. In the end, it might just be the perfect solution for your company’s freight loading needs.
